James Harden Blockbuster Trade Deal

On Wednesday January 12th, The Brooklyn Nets announced a trade for James Harden, ultimately forming an NBA super team of the league’s most elite scoring trio of Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, and Harden.
As this move also involves the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Houston Rockets, this blockbuster deal has been rumored to happen for months.
The Nets sent center Jarrett Allen and forward Taurean Prince to Cleveland, and guard Caris LeVert and forward Rodions Kurucs, as well as three first round draft picks (2022, 2024 and 2026) and four first round pick swaps (2021, 2023, 2025 and 2027) to Houston.
The Rockets also receive guard Dante Exum and a 2022 first round draft pick from Cleveland from the Milwaukee Bucks and Brooklyn further gets a 2024 second round draft pick from the Cavaliers to complete the deal.
“I honestly don’t like this move…. I feel like “super teams” are ruining the NBA. Players are now able to literally get up and leave to any teams they want,” said Cleveland Cavaliers fan Andy Neimeier.
In his first season as an NBA head coach and former point guard and two-time league MVP Steve Nash will have the responsibility to orchestrate this newly formed super team.
“It can be complicated and definitely guaranteed to not work out. With a clash of many elite superstars who expect to always be the ‘star’ of the team, their personalities can definitely go against one another ,” said Brett Vaccaro, long time NBA fan.
The blockbuster deal provides lots of sports drama as the deal was announced twenty-four hours after Harden seemed to deliver a farewell address of sorts following the Rockets’ loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night.
Nets star Kyrie Irving also has been questionable as he was set to miss his fifth straight game due to personal reasons. Before the Harden trade, many speculated that Irving wanted out in Brooklyn.
Now with the arrival of Harden, Irving will be likely to stay in Brooklyn as he is no stranger to playing on a superteam. Irving was part of the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers championship team that starred himself alongside NBA All-Stars Lebron James and Kevin Love
“This trade will definitely rock the NBA. Most teams will now approach playing the Nets differently,” said Brooklyn Nets and Kyrie Irving fan John Ranieri.
As Harden has cycled through playing with many NBA superstars such as Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and Chris Paul, he is expected to leave all of his past teammates behind. As he has played Durant in the past, there should be some chemistry between the two. Harden has also played with Irving in the past with the United States National Team.
“I think the chemistry Harden has with his new teammates is very important. It will be a key factor in their success,” said Vaccaro.
It will be exciting to see how this trade plays out as many now expect the Nets to be favorites in winning the NBA Championship.
