This summer, people flocked to see many memorable movies released in theaters across the country.

Moviegoers anticipated a sequel filled summer. Because of this, Chagrin Cinemas official Dave Huffman said that this was a solid summer for ticket sales.

“It was a great summer at the movies with films like ‘Incredibles 2’ exceeding everyone’s expectations and late summer releases like ‘The Meg’ and ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ making August much busier than usual,” said Huffman.

Huffman indicated that “Incredibles 2” reached a much more diverse audience than a typical animated film’s viewer base.

“‘Incredibles 2” was always expected to be a hit but no one expected it to make over $600 million at the domestic box office,” said Huffman.

Many Chagrin Falls High School students loved the movie. “It was a real long wait for the sequel but it brought back a lot of childhood memories, I loved the original ‘Incredibles’, It just made me feel like a kid in a candy store,” said cinematic fanatic Mick Lawrence.

Superhero movie fan Tommy Conway highly anticipated “Avengers: Infinity War.”

“It was really good! Thanos killed half the universe, it was kinda unexpected,” said Conway.

Although “Incredibles 2” and “Avengers: Infinity War” were big hits, many movies did not fare so well.

Huffman talked about some of the disappointments of the summer, touching on Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s “Skyscraper.”

“The biggest bomb of the summer was Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Skyscraper’. It was a major disappointment and audiences avoided it,” said Huffman.

Overall, It was a good summer for movies, especially for Chagrin due to the newly renovated Chagrin Cinemas location.

“We’re excited about the new luxury recliners at Chagrin and patrons are loving them. It’s great to relax and watch a movie on the big screen with an audience so you get that shared communal experienced,” said Huffman.

Lawrence, who has had the pleasure of visiting, said, “They’re great, It’s just like recliners with the two buttons that you push. It’s comfortable.”
